In more than 18 years of working with United Methodist archives, libraries, annual conferences, and agencies, we have digitized more than 1,000 historic Methodist / United Methodist audio programs.
History of the Project
October 2006 – Preserving important audio of The United Methodist Church began as an audio initiatives project at United Methodist Communications in Nashville, Tennessee. UMCom partnered with the United Methodist Commission on Archives and History to acquire and preserve the programs. Digital files were archived and programs were available to hear at Audio.UMCom.org.
December 2007 – UMCom continued to present programs online, but withdrew from the project of digitizing programs. Mike Hickcox continued the digitizing of audio, adding more programs to the collection online and preservation at the United Methodist archives.
May 2012 – When the online presence at UMCom was discontinued, SoundTheology.org was created to give the collection a continuing online access.
In 2024 – The project continues as more programs are digitized. More than 1,000 Methodist and United Methodist programs have been processed and preserved.
Tomorrow – We’ll digitize the programs you have on audio tapes sitting on your shelves. To save those programs, contact us today.
Partners To Date – Tapes have been digitized from Boston University School of Theology, Bridwell Library at Southern Methodist University, the Cal-Pac Annual Conference, Discipleship Ministries, Drew University, Methodist Theological School in Ohio, Methodist-Thinker.com, North Carolina Annual Conference, the General Commission on Archives and History, the General Council on Church and Society, United Methodist Communications, Wesley Theological Seminary, and the Wisconsin Annual Conference, Southern Methodist University.
Additional programs have come from the Church of the Saviour in Washington DC, the National Council of Churches, Riverside Church in NYC, and Select Learning (ELCA).
