Reels, Cassettes, Mini-cassettes, and DATs

We digitize reel-to-reel tapes, compact cassettes, and mini-cassettes. In addition, we process digital audio tapes (DATs), which contain digital signals, but which must be played back (on a special deck) like any conventional tape, and that signal saved as a digital file..

We will do the following:

  1. Examine your tapes to be sure they are in condition to be played. Most are good, some are repairable.
  2. Digitize your tapes on high-quality playback machines and create WAV digital audio files.
  3. After saving the original digital files, we will process the audio for best listening quality, and also save those WAV digital files.
  4. Create and save MP3 digital audio files that can be used online.
  5. If appropriate and allowed, we may add the audio programs to the collection online at SoundTheology.org.
  6. Return your tapes and all files to you on a USB thumb drive or a portable hard drive.
  7. Provide the digital files to the United Methodist General Council on Archives and History for preservation.
